New x-ray generator
Last month we announced the arrival of our state of the art digital x-ray unit. Now our new x-ray generator has arrived and is fully installed. The new generator is more powerful allowing us to get better x-rays of large animals, such as chest or abdominal images in large breed dogs. These two investments in our x-ray equipment, mean that Summerhill is more than keeping up with modern medical advancements to offer you and your pets the best possible service.
Cat Arthritis
With this cold damp weather, human and canine sufferers of arthritis are struggling. However so are many of our feline friends. Untill relatively recently cats weren't really thought to suffer much with arthritis, mainly due to their light body weight. However recent studies have shown that over 60% of cats over 12 years of age, have significant arthritis (enough to be seen clearly on x-rays). This means that there are probably more with mild arthritis where the changes aren't visible on x-rays yet. Cats seem to be affected most in their elbow joints. This means they often struggle on landing when jumping down. If your cat is more hesitant to jump down, and spends less time moving about, they could well be suffering from arthritis. Luckily there are many treatments which can considerably improve their comfort levels. If you are concerned about your cat come along to the practice for more information.
