Further training

Further training is as important in our receptionists and office staff, as our vets and nurses. So this month several of our support staff are starting new courses. Julie and Debbie (on reception) and Mandy (one of our trainee nurses) are taking a NVQ 2 qualification in communication and customer support. Toni (on reception and in the office) is taking an NVQ 2 in IT, and Steph (one of our qualified nurses) is taking an NVQ 2 in management and team building to assist Nadine in nurse training.

A dog is for life not just for Christmas!

Thankfully most people no longer buy puppies or kittens as christmas presents. Regardless of when you buy them, choosing the right breed to suit your family and lifestyle is vitally important. At Summerhill we run free pre-purchase clinics where Nadine, our head nurse can advise you on not only the pros and cons of each breed (of dog or cat) but also what to look for when selecting a new healthy pet. In addition if you need advice about purchasing rabbits, guinea pigs or any other furry friends, be sure to contact us first. A pet IS for life not just for christmas, and so make use of this free service to help you make the right decision.

Christmas excesses!

At christmas time, pets tend to get spoilt, just as we do. In addition there are often lots of yummy treats left lying around which dogs (and sometimes cats) can help themselves too. As a result we often see an increase in vomiting and diarrhoea cases over the christmas period. For advice at any time, contact the practice (or out of hours, phone our 'on call' mobile) to speak direct to one of our vets.
