Get ready for fireworks night!
We never forget Fireworks night! It is one of the most memorable dates in the calendar along with Birthdays, Christmas day, Valentines Day and April fools day!For our pets it is more of a surprise and can be much less enjoyable! Some fireworks can be very noisy. Remember that our pets have much better hearing than us and every noise is much louder to them.Following some basic rules can help keep your pet happy and safe at firework time. Pets in the house:
If you or your neighbours are having fireworks at home or nearby keep your dogs and cats indoors from early evening. Once they are in, shut cat-flaps and external doors.Give your pets some space in a room that they are used to and shut the curtains. Put on some music or the television, this will help distract them from the noise.
During the evening check on them regularly. Feeding them a meal that is high in carbohydrates can help make them sleepy before the fireworks start.
Bird's cages should be covered and be moved away from windows. Pets in the garden:
Wherever possible bring rabbits and other outdoor pets into or close by the house. It is a good idea to cover the pens, remembering to leave enough gaps for air so that they can breath. Out and about:
From October onwards, local parks and some streets can become noisy with fireworks. At this time it is especially important to keep dogs under control. Sudden noise and light can be very frightening to a dog and they may react by panicking and trying to run away. If you think fireworks maybe set off, keep your dog on a lead and keep talking to them for reassurance. Ideally enjoy fireworks at an organised display and keep your pets safely at home.
Health and safety
As with any other small business, health and safety of our employees and visitors is of upmost importance to us. Jane and Sue have been attending several courses along with the help of an external company (Citation Ltd) to ensure that the practice is up to speed in all aspects of health and safety.
