Long term needs of the older horse

  • Adequate shelter from weather and blankets/rugs if needed.
  • Regular deworming every 6 - 13 weeks (depending on product used).
  • Regular vaccinations (immunity does not accumulate from years of regular vaccination).
  • Regular exercise within the horse's capability
  • Constant supply of fresh, clean water.
  • Offer good quality hay and a healthy balanced diet
  • Stress free environment.
  • Annual health exam by your veterinary surgeon, they may also check for lameness, laminitis and Cushing's disease.
  • Dental exams every 6 months by your vet or a qualified equine dental technician.
  • Regular hoof trimming and shoeing.
  • Daily grooming and examination of the feet, legs and body.
  • Lots of TLC to reward your horse for the many years of loyal companionship!
